Titles in sports dramas (appearance)

In this post I will be looking at titles and how they are presented in sporting dramas. Titles in sports dramas are usually not drastically altered. They are usually presented in a strong and bold font, with possible music accompaniment.

The first title I will be looking at is the 1976 Rocky.

The introduction of the rocky title starts by the infamous and triumphant Rocky Music playing as ROCKY in a bold and white text scrolls past the screen. The introduction of the title is extremely powerful taking up all off the screen, the use of music further amplifies the intensity of the introduction of the title. This is done as the title of the movie is also the name of the main protagonist this further creates a reason for the title to be introduced in such a powerful and striking way.

The second title introduction I will be looking at is from the movie Raging Bull 1980

We are first introduced to the production teams that created the film eg MGM, United Artists. The directors and producers and main actors are introduced. It then cuts from black into a black and white image of a boxer in a robe in the middle of the ring whilst classical music is playing in the background. The title of the film "RagingBull" then appears in the middle/right of the screen in a bright red colour with a strong bold font, typical of the sporting drama genre. The colour red contrasting with the black and white film of a man fighting in the background creates a extremely powerful ascetic, further more the use of the music juxtaposes the chaotic, war of a sport that is boxing.

The font I will be using for the title of my film will be in sans serif. San serif is the font congenitally used in sporting dramas due to its bold and powerful ascetic. The other form of font commonly used is serifs. This is commonly used in softer types of film genres eg romantic, comedies. Sans-serif  are also used for more
