Research regarding certifications

In this blog I will be looking at the different certifications that are used in terms of rating a movie. These different certificates are given due to graphic content or mature subjects that may be found in a movie.

The website I will be using as a source for my information is BBFC also known as the "British Board of Film Classification". This site consists of many different movies and the certification that they have been give

There are roughly 6 different types of certifications.

A 12 rated movie would consist of material that is not generally suitable for children aged under 12. No one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. If you enter the official BBFC website you will be able to find a detailed list explaining what makes a 12 rated movie 12 rated. BBFC 12 rated movie. In short the page explains that in a 12 rated movie there would be no promotion of dangerous movie, strong language is permitted however only to a certain extent.

The other rating my movie would suit Is a 15. On the BBFC website they clearly show a difference between a 12 rated movie and a 15. A 15 rated movies are given much more freedom, in regards of showing drugs, sex and violence. My movie would want to show an accurate depiction of the characters you may find in the world of rugby this usually consist of foul mouthed character, with the sport itself including brutal tackles and hits.

After analysing both different ratings I would give my movie the rating of a 15. I believe if my movie was given a 12 rating it would not give off an honest and truthful rugby experience. Due to the sports brutality and the sometimes foul mouthed fans. it would also contrast with the downwards spiralling protagonist, who abuses alcohol and becomes a drunk. The depiction of the injury would also be quite a graphic scene. The reason for this is I want to be able to show the severity of the injury, which the protagonist then has to come back from, also showing yet again the dangers that come with the sport of rugby.
