Titles from different genres

In this post I will be looking at how the titles of movies are affected by genre, eg appearance and in which order production companies, second production company, name of film etc appear in.

The first film I will be looking at is the cult classic Childs play, a movie released in 1998 which is also part of the horror genre.

  • The first title we see is the company which actually produced Childs play, that being United Artists
  • The soundtrack then starts playing and we see the producer of the film " A David Kirschner production"
  • We then see "A David Kirschner production", this is the actual person who has produced then movie and not the production company
  • We then see "A Tom Holland film" which means he is the director and the creative mind behind the movie
  • The scene then plays out for a certain duration of time,  we then see the title of the movie in bold and in the centre of the screen
  • Shortly after we see "starring" and a list of actors first of which being the more important
  •

The second movie I will be looking at is the first film in the science fiction/action franchise Transformer. released in 2007, directed by Micheal Bay and produced by DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures.

  • The first title that appears is the Dreamwork's animation with the title following shortly after. This is the same as any other Dreamwork's film however it is accompanied with mechanical/robotic noises
  • The second title to appear is the second production company that being Paramount Pictures, this is also accompanied with the name robotic noises which are custom to the Transformer genre
  • We then see see both production companies names in the Transformers font, which is also used in advertisement.
  • We then see in association with Hasbro. Hasbro is a toy making company, the likeliness of Hasbro's name occurring is due to them realising a Transformers toy line
  • The movie then gives a brief narration, introducing to the fundamental plot of the movie, which is then followed up with the Transformers title robotically assembling in the middle of the screen, also in the typical Transformers font.

The third movie I will be looking at is the comedy Pineapple Express, released in 2008 and directed by David Gordon Green.

  • The first title we see is the Columba pictures logo in black and white.
  • We are then given a brief comedic briefing about how the ban of marijuana had occurred
  • The movie then starts, this time in colour. As this is happening "Columbia Pictures presents" is in the bottom right of the screen.
  • "In association with Relativity Media" which can be assumed to be the second production company
  • The third production company "Apatow Company" is then on the bottom right of the screen
  •  We are then introduced to the main character, with title "Pineapple Express" is then introduced near the centre of the screen with music playing in the background.
  •  The next titles are all actors staring in the film

The fourth movie I will be looking at is Alice in the wonderland a fantasy movie produced by Disney in 2010.

  • We see the iconic Walt Disney pictures animation
  • The films music starts playing and "Walt Disney Pictures Presents" then appears in the screen in the Alice In Wonderland font
  • The music then climaxes revealing "Alice In Wonderland" in its typical font.
