From this trailer here are some features that were used to create enigma/mystery:
- The opening scene starts off as a typical bank height scene, camera zooms in on a clown mask which is Mine-en-scene, it is also Foreshadowing
- The use of suspense building music which heightens in intensity every once awhile slowly builds suspense for the audience
- The Thugs mention a character called the Joker, not much information is given out about him
- Height takes a twist as Thugs start to kill one another, creating confusion with the audience
- Mysterious Thug finally speaks, sounds different to the other Thugs, Then kills the last of the Thugs and leaves with all the money
- He then takes his mask off whilst killing a banker, which revels he is the Joker. This creates a foundation of enigma throughout the movie as the audience is left wanting to know more about this crazed murderer
- There is also a couple seconds of camera time were we see this strange looking gas erupt from a canister.
- The Joker then rides away in a school bus successfully, making the audience wonder what's next for the Joker
